Summer Camping 2024
2024 Camp Request Instructions for Areas in the South Central Division
Please read carefully as you prepare to make your Summer Camp requests.
The Camp Request System opens August 28, 2023.
Here are the instructions for Area Camp Requests in the system.
- 2024 CAMP CALENDAR: SR camp weeks are either 6-day or 7-day this year. WYLF, and YLVS are 5-day. Pay special attention to the length of outreach weeks for camps as they vary based on camp and session.
- REQUESTS: ALL REQUESTS MUST BE REALISTIC AND VIABLE OPTIONS FOR YOUR AREA. PLEASE ENSURE EACH TRIP HAS THE CORRECT # OF REQUESTS AND THAT DATES VARY WHERE POSSIBLE.
- SR and WYLF weeks: 3 date/camp requests are required for every SR and WYLF trip.
- CROSS DIVISIONAL: 4 date/camp requests are required for SR and WYLF requests that include an external division request; 2 of the 4 requests must be at either LHR or CCR.
- CPNM and YLVS: 1 date/camp request is required and a 2nd is requested.
- DATES: Requests should fall in at least TWO sessions, where possible.
- KIDS OF COLOR: We require each outreach trip to indicate the anticipated # of kids of color on each outreach trip. Instead of the comment section, use the kids of color field to answer the following question for each of your outreach trips:
- Of your total requested spots, how many do you anticipate being kids of color (non-Anglo)?
- CAPERNAUM: For Capernaum specific weeks and inclusion camping, be sure to read the Capernaum specific section “Capernaum Campers” in these instructions. Questions? Contact Sean Mann.
- YOUNGLIVES: For Childcare Discipleship Trips or YoungLives Camper/Leader trips, be sure to read the YoungLives specific section “YoungLives” in these instructions. Questions? Contact Becca Eby.
- LARGE TRIP: Trips larger than 114 spots (2 buses) will be prompted to provide a split trip alternative. Please include “split trip” in the comment field of each split trip.
- ADVENTURES: Requests for Wilderness or any other adventure camp can be made on the Adventures tab.
- Young Life College areas requesting spots at an Adventure camp week that is not labeled “College” should include the word “College” in their comment.
- Camping strongly encourages areas to plan acclimation days into their camp trips that are at elevation.
- COMMENT SECTION INSTRUCTIONS: Please limit comments to information that would be helpful to the allocation team. Do not list “travel with” in the comments. These trips should be linked and a comment is not necessary.
- Examples of helpful comments: “split trip”, “one school” if large trip

YL Connect Camp — A Few Reminders:
- On YL Connect Camp Home (YLCC), areas can see all camp trips — this includes both nationally managed and locally created. Quick tip: Click the pencil icon in the right-hand corner to add YLCC to your navigation bar. If you need to create a new Camp Trip, use the Create New Camp Trip link from YLCC Home (see screenshot). You can also use the Create New Camp Trip or Event button from the YL Connect Home page. Either way, start in YL Connect and not in Webconnex!
- When area staff wants to add funds to reduce a camper’s balance, it should be done through YLCC (NOT Webconnex). This link will walk staff through the process.
- Volunteers adding Funds? The process for volunteers to add funds can be found in these resources: Phase 3 of the Quick Guide for Volunteers video or step-by-step resource (pages 48-51 of the Nationally-managed Volunteer-led Learning Guide)
For questions, contact helpdesk@sc.younglife.org or schedule a Zoom meeting with the Help Desk.
Be sure to fill out an online N-Form! This form is completed by the Area Director each time the area has an activity that involves an overnight stay at a camp not owned by Young Life. Submit this form for trips with the following purpose: Outreach, Creative Camping, Discipleship, Training, Family, Leadership, Work and/or Retreat. Please submit this form to the Region as well as camping, so we can track camping outside YL properties.
(Region # for the form is AF111)
